Born on November 19, 1949, in Basse-Terre, Moruga, Trinidad and Tobago, he was a son of the late Inez Nicholas and Rennie Charles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Kennis and Denise.
Kent attended the John S. Donaldson Technical Institute in Trinidad, where he completed four years of trade school and earned certification in welding. A skilled welder by trade, he worked for several companies throughout his career, including Swan Hunter and the Port Authority in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Structure Unlimited and Ira G. Steffy & Sons in Pennsylvania.
Faith was an important part of Kent's life. His grandmother instilled in him a strong foundation of faith through the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She had been baptized in the ocean, and Kent always hoped he would one day experience the same. Years later, he was blessed to fulfill that wish, honoring both his faith and his grandmother's legacy.
Kent's greatest joy was his family. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with those he loved and was rarely far from a phone call with a family member. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he could often be found giving rides to and from the airport, helping with errands, assisting with yard work, or helping friends and family move. His generosity knew no bounds, and he never hesitated to offer his time, talents, and support whenever they were needed.
Gifted with mechanical intuition, Kent was a true handyman who could build, repair, and improve just about anything. Whether welding, carpentry, plumbing, automotive repair, or installing fixtures and home furnishings, he approached every project with skill and confidence. He even volunteered his talents with Habitat for Humanity, helping construct a home for a family member. He was also an amazing cook whose meals brought family and friends together around the table.
Kent found joy in music, especially smooth jazz, R&B, and calypso. He was an avid collector of watches and coins and enjoyed photography and keeping up with the latest entertainment and audio equipment. A true audiophile, he appreciated quality sound and took pride in creating the perfect listening experience. He also enjoyed traveling with his family, visiting different cities and spending time at amusement parks. Known for his caring and generous nature, Kent was like a father to many, especially his nieces and nephews, who looked to him for guidance, support, and love.
One day while watching television with his devoted wife, Alma, news broke that a famous movie star had passed away. Kent remarked, "When I pass, no one will know." Without hesitation, Alma replied, "I will be your biggest cheerleader." Her words reflected the love and devotion they shared throughout their 43 years of marriage.
Kent's memory will be lovingly cherished by his devoted wife, Alma M. Nicholas; his sons, Aaron Nicholas and his wife, Jennifer, Kevin Nicholas and his wife, Debbie, and Kenton Nicholas; and his four granddaughters, Alannah, Kaili, Keira, and Kara. He is also survived by his uncles, Vernon and Moultin; his aunt, Launa; and his siblings, Cassius, Wayne, Victor, Valerie, Joan, Joy, Sylvia, Anne Mary, Antoinette, Debbie, June, Christie, Lystra, Edmond, Keith, and Hazel. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Rehoboth Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1502 Snyder Street, Reading, PA 19601. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in church, with Pastor Rabiel Torres officiating. The service will also be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/@rehobothsdachurch.
