Born in Reading on December 5, 1917, he a son of the late Frederick and Sallie (Reeser) Barth. Mooney was a 1934 graduate of Reading High School.
Mooney joined the US Army on April 1, 1941 as a Radio Operator during WWII. He was in 190th Field Artillery and landed on the beaches of Normandy the day after D-Day. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the European Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars.
After returning home, he worked at his family butch shop with his late brother, Charles. Later, he went into insurance sales and then became a sales representative for Wolverine Worldwide. Mooney was a long time member of the St. John’s Lodge No. 435, Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania. He was also member of the Green Valley Country Club.
Mooney was a member of the Arbor Society and he loved puttering around his farm, planting different kinds of trees that he received from them.
Surviving are three children: Steven Barth of Exeter Twp., Michael Barth of Klinefeltersville and Heather Barth-Manrodt and her husband Bob of Reading; two grandchildren: Jenah and Jesse Barth of Exeter Twp. and his very good friend and ex-wife, Dorothy Mae Barth.
Mooney is predeceased by a son, L. Alan Barth; three sisters: Irene Himmelberger, Dorothy Sands and Grace Searfoss and four brothers: Daniel, Harold, Charles and Paul Barth.
A graveside committal will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 1pm. Family and friends are asked to meet in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reiffton by 12:30pm on Monday to form the funeral cortège.
