She was the widow of Franklin E Poore, III. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Samuel M. and Margaret (Stiely) Longenecker.
Marilyn was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
She was a graduate of Wilson Senior High School. She graduated as valedictorian of her class from Kutztown State Teachers College, where she received a BS in Library Science with a minor in History Education and was a member of the education honor society Kappa Delta Pi. During her first year of teaching, she set up Cumberland Valley High School’s library at its inception. She supported her husband during his Marine service and his law career. She was a substitute teacher in the Wyomissing School District for many years. However, her greatest occupation was as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker!
Marilyn volunteered with AAUW and was the Historian for the Friends of the Berks County Public Libraries for many years.
Marilyn enjoyed walking, swimming, reading, knitting, gardening, dancing, playing cards, baking (especially Christmas cookies) and enjoying her week at the Beach – most recently Stone Harbor. She also loved her many visits to Bar Harbor. She was totally devoted to her family and was their biggest cheerleader at sporting and scouting events, art exhibits, dance recitals and musical concerts. She made holidays extra special with her family meals, extravagant gift giving for birthdays and Christmas, Easter Basket filling and hiding/egg hunt, attending the Wyomissing Hills parade and ceremony annually, 4th of July sparklers, and hosting other cookouts. Her sour cream cutouts, sand tarts, potato filling and cranberry/applesauce will be missed!
She was also preceded in death by her three siblings, Patricia Rentschler, Lee Longenecker [Julie] and Douglas (Dusty) [Helen] Longenecker.
