Mary attended the Reading School District, where she earned her GED. She work at Arrow International where she retired and then dedicated many years to caring for others through her work as a caregiver for Threshold. She was an active member of Elizabeth Villa Church in West Reading .
Mary was known for her loving heart, generous spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need. She enjoyed traveling and, in her downtime, loved nothing more than a good game of spades. To those who knew her, she proudly earned the title of the “Spades Queen.”
Mary cherished the special friendship she shared with her best girlfriend, Doretha “Micky” Durham. She also treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, and family who brought great joy and love into her life.
Mary’s kindness, laughter, strength, and loving spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the blessing of knowing her. Although she is no longer with us in person, the memories she created and the love she gave will remain in our hearts forever.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lonnie Battle and Sophie Reed Battle; her daughter, Latonya Spencer; her grandson, Travelle Martin; and six brothers, Willie Battle, Rubin Battle, Lonnie Battle, Roosevelt Battle, Edward Battle, and Nathanial Battle. 1 sister Daisy Battle Glass
Mary leaves to cherish her precious memory her children: Ervin Martin and his wife, Susan Martin, both of York, PA; Ronald Martin of Reading, PA; Aiyishah Martin of York, PA; Anita Jemenez of Baltimore, MD; her bonus son, Denzel Martin, of Allentown Pa her bonus son; and Nic Benetz, of Reading Pa.
She is also survived by her two beloved sisters, Bertha Grinnage and Margie Clemons-Terry, both of Reading, PA.
Mary leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
Though she is no longer with us in body, the love she shared, the memories she created, and the lives she touched will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest peacefully, knowing that her legacy of love continues through the generations.
A viewing for Mary will be Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 9-11 AM, followed by A Celebration of Life Service at 11 AM in Theo C Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St. Reading, PA 19601. Burial to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
