Miriam Ortiz, 68, of Muhlenberg Township, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at her residence. Born in Reading, PA on July 20, 1956, she was a daughter to Cecilio Candelaria and the late Lydia E. (Perez) Candelaria. In addition to her mother, Miriam was preceded in death by her brother Albert Candelaria.
A true caregiver at heart, Miriam spent much of her life working as a CNA in various nursing homes. For five years, she also worked in clerical positions at SAM, Inc., showing her versatility and strong work ethic.
Miriam was a firecracker—always the life of the party, ready to dance to the oldies and Spanish tunes that made her heart sing. A lover of seafood (especially crabs!) and family gatherings, she loved making memories with those closest to her, especially during visits to her loved ones in Jersey. She worked hard, laughed loud, and loved fiercely.
Miriam’s spirit lives on through her father, Cecilio Candelaria; her daughter, Tanisha N. Ortiz; and her son, Luis A. Candelaria. She also leaves behind her twin sister, Eneida Candelaria; her sister, Gloria E. Candelaria-Rosado; 6 grandchildren, Desmaray L. Cariño, Jaeylin D. Rodriguez, Chastity Candelaria, Dominic Candelaria, Cecilio Candelaria, and Javier Candelaria; 2 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry her memory with them.
A viewing for Miriam will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601. A prayer service will begin promptly at 1:00 PM, with burial immediately following at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA 19605.
Miriam’s spirit will forever be alive in the laughter, music, and memories she left behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
