Born on September 23, 1930, in Northgate, ND, she was the daughter of the late Ole P. Mellom and Gertina (Allickson) Mellom.
In addition to her parents, Murlaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vincent Powers Welsh; her son, Blaine Ole Welsh; and her siblings, Gordon Mellom, Amaryllis Bolster, and Judy Blankenship.
Murlaine was a graduate of State College of Washington, Class of 1952, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. She went on to spend more than three decades as a pharmacist, serving patients at Sparta Pharmacy and Dover General Hospital in New Jersey.
A resident of Sparta for more than 60 years, Murlaine was deeply involved in her community and always found ways to help others. She volunteered with Girl Scouts and Brownies, the Sparta Township Library, Meals on Wheels, and Kittatinny Craftsman. She also drove cancer patients to medical appointments, served as a township ambassador, and remained active at her senior center. These were just a few of the many ways Murlaine gave her time and cared for those around her.
Those who knew Murlaine will remember her for her kindness, and unwavering support of her family. She was a loving mother, “Mee Ma” to her grandchildren, and “Great Mee Ma” to her great-grandson.
Murlaine will be lovingly remembered by her son, Brian Vincent Welsh and his wife, Sandy; her daughter, Brydee Murlaine Farmer and her husband, Larry; her grandchildren, Vincent Corey Welsh and his wife, Sally, Jay Farmer and his wife, Erin, and Daniel Farmer; and her great-grandson, Henry Vincent Welsh.
