He is survived by his wife, Mary A. (Johnson) McCullough.
Born in Reading on April 26, 1924, he was a son of the late Charles and Ethel (Fair) McCullough.
In 1942, Ray was a pitcher for the City League of Allentown, where he was offered a contract with the Philadelphia Athletics. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army to serve in World War II. During his time in the service Ray received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the storming of the beach in Okinawa.
In 1945 when the war ended, Ray continued to pursue his passion for baseball by playing for the V.V.V. Athletic Association in Reading, where the team won the Industrial League championship in 1947. Ray's passion for baseball never left him, but due to the injuries he sustained he never was able to fulfill his dream of playing professional baseball.
Later in life, Ray was a proud member of the Reading Buccaneers from 1960-1964. Ray also served as an accountant for a CPA firm.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his son, Donald L. and his wife, Lynn McCullough of Leesport; and granddaughter, Tara and her husband, Joel Koppenberg.
Services and burial will be private.
