I spoke with Bob & Kathy Clark today and they gave me the sad news of Ray's passing. My wife and I were away at the time and were not aware of his death. I knew Ray as a student and an outstanding Daniel Boone wrestler and as an assistant wrestling coach. I always admired Ray's dedication and courage. My wife and I saw Ray several times as he battled his illness and he always tried to be up-beat and pleasant as we talked about his battle and about the "old days". I am proud to have known Ray as a student/athlete and a friend. Rest in Peace, Ray

Dear Family,
My husband and I have only known Ray through the dialysis clinic and the support group meetings over the last three years where both guys were patients, but liked him immensely and knew instantly what a good guy he was. It just radiated from him. A number of times we would run into him when we would happen to have a meal at the same restaurant. He did us a very good turn by telling us about the chicken pot pie at Sunset Restaurant. Good fortune was with us one day in early September when we ran into him there and we had lunch together, enjoying his company. It must have been right before he went into the hospital. Then we were missing him at the clinic where we would normally meet him. I was shocked to read of his passing on Sunday as I was catching up on some papers I hadn't had time to read earlier in the week. Sadly, by that hour it was too late to attend his service. We are so sad to lose him and know you are missing him terribly. God bless and keep you until you are joined with him again. I know that if we are lucky enough to go where he is, we will be so happy to see him again.
With warmest regards, Sharon and Tom Smith

Dear Shutt Family,

I had the privileged of having Ray as a wrestling coach at DB. He was an awesome coach and an even better human being. He inspired me not only as a wrestler but also as a person. I was sad to hear of his passing and I pray that you find comfort in knowing how admired he was. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My sister Patty called to tell me this sad news. I'm visiting my daughter and family in Dallas. Because of this I won't be able to attend the service. We did not know Ray was so ill and hospitalized. He has suffered for a long time and now his suffering is over. You were the best thing to happen to Ray! I'm so thrilled he had that happiness with you! I knew Ray since I was thirteen, when I met his sister, Carol! All I can think of is that beautiful reunion in Heaven! May God Bless you and your family during this difficult time!

Eleven years or more, you were reunited with Gail and visited us at our Merritt Island Florida home. I will keep seeing you smiling on my porch waiting to see manatees and other marine wildlife swim in the water there. But the one smile I remember feeling you made me have, was having the opportunity to dance with you at our high school dances. What a special feeling you could give a girl with that honor.
