

Richard Lewis Neiheiser, 86, of Birdsboro, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. He was the devoted husband of the late Ruth A. (Witters) Neiheiser. The couple married in Elkton, MD on May 4, 1952. Sadly, Ruth passed away March 21, 2005.
Born in Hamburg, Richard was a son of the late William and Margaret (Moyer) Neiheiser. Richard was a US Marine and served during the Korean War. During his service, he was selected to be a Marine Military Policeman. He was employed for 32 years with Stanley G. Flagg as a maintenance mechanic before retiring in 1992. Later he volunteered at Birdsboro Cemetery to maintain its beauty.
Richard was an avid hunter. He primarily hunted doe and buck but the family recalls times when he hunted wild turkey. Richard coached the Birdsboro Lions baseball team for six years and he volunteered at the food bank at Calvary EC Church, Birdsboro.
Surviving are three sons, Richard Joseph Neiheiser and his wife, Rosalyn A. of Exeter Twp., David D. Neiheiser, who resided at home with his father, and William K. Neiheiser and his wife, Shelley of Mullica Hill, NJ; two daughters, Debra S. (Neiheiser) Howell and her husband, Dennis S. of Olathe, KS and Betsy A. Swisher and her companion, Patrick Dougherty of Blandon; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and two on the way.
Also surviving are two brothers, Kenneth L. Neiheiser and his wife, Jeannette A. of Sinking Spring and Howard G. Neiheiser and his wife, Kay A. of Richland; sister in law, Sandra E. (Beam) Keim and her husband, F. James of Birdsboro and Richard’s favorite child, Felix the Cat.
He is predeceased by two brothers, William and James Neiheiser and four sisters, Dora (Neiheiser) Marks, Betty (Neiheiser) Weaver, Dolores (Neiheiser) McMullen and infant, Nancy Neiheiser.
Services for Richard will be Monday, October 31, 2016 at 11am in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home from 10 to 11am on Monday. Richard will be laid to rest next to his sweetheart, Ruth in Birdsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be appreciated at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, 555 Croton Rd, Suite 111, King of Prussia, PA 19406.
