Rosa Mae McIntosh Hicklin, 81, of Reading, entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Reading Hospital. Born in Lexington, North Carolina, on September 25, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Samuel McIntosh Sr. and Mamie Lee (Parks) McIntosh.
In addition to her parents, she was greeted in heaven by her husband, Alfred Hicklin; her son, Leroy Curtis Jr.; her brothers, Samuel McIntosh Jr., Larry McIntosh, and David McIntosh; her sister, Judy McIntosh; her granddaughter, Vivian Harris; and her grandson Tyrhee Wall.
For more than 20 years, she worked for AT&T, which later became Lucent Technologies, holding various positions before her well-deserved retirement in 1992.
Rosa Mae enjoyed listening to Keith Sweat, keeping a clean home, tending to her plants, and, of course, cooking. Her family will especially remember the meals she made with love, including her pork shoulder and her hamburger, rice, and gravy. Those familiar dishes, along with the memories gathered around her table, will remain a special part of the love she leaves behind.
Rosa Mae was a woman whose heart was always open to others. She was deeply giving and spent much of her life looking after the people around her, including not only her own children, but other people’s children as well. Family meant everything to her, and she found her greatest joy in being surrounded by the people she loved. She will be missed by all who were blessed enough to have known her.
Rosa Mae’s spirit and love will live on through her children: Kawania McIntosh, Teresa Curtis, Mamie D. McIntosh, James McIntosh (Marci), Tonya Rayford (Eddie), Yolanda McIntosh, Tynese McIntosh, and Skyra Gonzalez; and her beloved furchild, Baby. She is also survived by her siblings: Albert McIntosh Sr., Mary Crosby (David), Paulette Gordon, Patricia McCluney (Hollis), Steven McIntosh, Robert McIntosh, Catherine Murphy, and Angela McIntosh. Rosa Mae also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A viewing will be held at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601, on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A Homegoing Service will promptly commence in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Barbara Friedman officiating. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Rd., Fleetwood, PA 19522.
