

He was born in Robesonia, a son of the late Sadie (Walker) and Samuel Carter.
He was a high school graduate and a U.S. Army veteran.
He leaves behind a son, David L. Josey, of Pottstown; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed baseball and playing cards. Samuel worked as a construction worker until he retired, then went to work as a security guard, until he became ill in 2006. After he became ill, he was cared for by his niece, Viola Jefferson of Reading, until his death.
Samuel was predeceased by four brothers: James, Aaron, Clarence and Richard; and four sisters: Pauline, Josephine, Irene and Mae.
A memorial service will be Friday August 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at The Washington Presbyterian Church, 715 N. 10th St., Reading PA 19604. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church at the above address.
