Vera Mae Ellison, 73, of Reading, Pennsylvania, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Vera Mae Ellison was born in Manchester, Georgia on April 1, 1948 the eldest daughter of the late Mary Florence Ellison.
Vera was raised in Reading, Pa., where she graduated from the Reading Public School System. Vera furthered studied toward being a nurse at Reading Muhlenberg Technical School, receiving her license as a Practical Nurse. She also was a licensed notary. Later she attended Philadelphia College of Bible receiving her B.S. in Bible. She then was appointed Pastor of The Central United Methodist Church in Philadelphia serving until her health failed. Vera didn't let that stop her becoming a literacy tutor and trainer. Vera worked with the mentally impaired children and was an advocate for seniors. Anyone who knew Vera, knew she loved to teach, was fun loving, full of joy, laughter and someone who loved Western movies. She taught at Malvern Bible Institute and taught in both sacred and secular settings. Although Vera never married, she has many Spiritual children. She was a true and faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, Reading.
Vera leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: two sisters; Faye Sheppard of Delaware, Minister Janet Ellison of Hatfield, PA., and one brother, Frederick and his wife Paula Gilley of Rochester, N.Y., the Waller Family of Georgia, three Aunts; Catherine Ellison of Reading, Lula Bell Hardnett and Sandra McGhee both of Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews and close family friends.

Vera was predeceased in death by her mother, Mary Florence Ellison and her youngest brother, Joel Darnell Ellison, Sr.

A viewing for Vera will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Zion Baptist Church, 224 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601. A Celebration of Life Service will occur Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 11:00 AM, 224 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601. A burial to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Anyone who will be attending the viewing and services, are required to wear a mask. Thank You.
