William A. Haldeman,101, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Country Meadows of Wyomissing Retirement Community, where he resided. Born in Reading, PA on November 20, 1922, he was a son to the late William A. Haldeman Sr. and Gula V. (Britton) Haldeman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary M. Haldeman; and 3 sisters Margaret, Helen and Dorothy.
William's career in the steel industry began at Birdsboro Steel, where he worked from 1956 until 1973. He then continued his dedication to the field as a machine operator at Carpenter Steel for another 11 years, retiring in 1987. While supporting his young family, William also took on part-time jobs, including a long stint with W.S. Strauss Awnings.
William enjoyed fishing, hunting, and attending horse races. He will be fondly remembered for his steadfast routine of walking every day around the Alvernia University campus, a habit believed to contribute to his remarkable long life. Known for his gregarious nature, William was a talker who could engage anyone in conversation, sharing stories and wisdom accumulated over a century of life.
William's spirit will be carried on by his 4 adult children William P. Haldeman and his wife Doris, of Prescott, AZ, John E. Haldeman and his wife Lois, of Denver, PA, Carol L. Hromsco and her husband Joseph, of Temple, PA, and June A. Thomas and her husband Patrick, of Shillington, PA. He also leaves behind his brother Edward Haldeman and his wife Pauline, of The Villages, FL; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren to cherish his memory.
Funeral services and burial will be private and at the discretion of William's family.
