1925 - 2014
Alice went home to glory in the wee hours of August 7, 2014 at the home of her daughter.
Alice was born to Thomas Edward and Eva Scott Boswell at home in Redding on October 11, 1925, the fourth of five children. She attended local schools but left Redding before her senior year when she married her life long partner Leroy Joseph, who was in the Navy. She later graduated from Berkeley High School.
Alice developed a love of softball at an early age, playing on several local teams. She began a long work history while still in high school. Her career included several years at NASA's Ames Research Center, and culminated with the U.S. Forest Service. She retired in 1980.
Alice and Leroy had their first child, Dale, in Dec., 1944; but lost him to polio in 1950. Their daughter, Lauren, was born 16 months later, after they had relocated to San Diego where Leroy was serving in the Navy.
Upon Leroy's retirement from the Navy (25 years) the family settled in San Jose; but the draw of the North State and "home" was strong and they moved to Anderson in the mid - '60's.
After retirement. Alice and Leroy did a bit of traveling before setting up their RV at Hat Creek Resort where they summered for many years. Alice was an avid fisherman.
In 2001, health issues for both Leroy and Alice caused them to sell their trailer and stay in Redding full time.
After the death of her beloved Leroy in 2011 (married 69+ years), Alice moved to Cottonwood.
Alice is preceded by her parents, four siblings, her son, and her great granddaughter, Olivia.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Dan Woolery, her granddaughters and their husbands, Jennifer and Jerry Newman, and Karen and Dale Hamblin, and her precious great-grandson, Stewart Hamblin.
