Barney Eugene Grubbs Jr. died peacefully at Marquis Care Center in Redding, California on June 30, 2014 at 6:35AM following a long illness. He was 70 years old.
Barney was originally from Renfroe, Alabama, born on August 30, 1943.
He was the sharecropper's son of Barney Eugene Grubbs Sr. and Mildred Allura Johnson and had 3 sister, Allene Henderson, Ruth Hydrick and Juanita Winningham, all from Alabama.
Barney lived in New York, as well as various places in California, but has always called Redding his home.
He was a fantastic carpenter, and a philanthropist through and through.
He was a human rights activist, he believed ALL people should have equal rights.
He had opened his home up to homeless people some with substance abuse problems and mental illness, trying to get them the resources that they needed to become self sufficient.
Barney loved animals, gardneding, and was a fabulous cook, and most importantly, he loved to laugh.
Barney always said that a stranger is a friend that you haven't met yet.
He revered his meaningful friendships Kevin Klein, Jeff Bechler, Bob and Nancy Choate, Roger and Karen May, Lonnie Arvidson, Terry Wright, Susan and Robin Pendergraft all of Redding.
A celebration of life will be held at Caldwell Park at 11:00AM on July 19, 2014.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for Mercy Hospice and Marquis Care Center for being so wonderful in his final days.
Barney was a caring gental soul and he will be missed terribly by all.
