LIFE
Bob and Bessie both retired from the University of Davis, he as a field supervisor that once helped test chemicals to help eradicate Marijuana plants in the fields many years ago, she worked in the Lab as a tech/assistant and helped through experiments develop safflower oil, though the professor and university got the prestige for the discovery she enjoyed telling her family her part in it all.
She enjoyed writing stories, reading, bible study, exercise at the retirement home she lived in and socializing with family and friends.
Bessie was a lifetime member of the Escapee R.V. Club which was more a way of life than a club. She kept in contact with many other members and through her and Bob's travels ended up buying a place for awhile in New Mexico to be nearer the Escapees during the months they spent traveling. After their age and eyes no longer allowed traveling they settled in their comfortable apartment at River Oaks Retirement Community where they had kept an apartment for awhile before moving in.
The couple traveled and visited all of the states in The United States of America including Alaska (when there son was stationed there in the Army) and one other visit and even Hawaii. They took a cruise ship to Hawaii that left the United States waters briefly and Bob found out how hard it was to track down a birth record that was never registered in order to get a passport. It is pretty hard to get an affidavit from the doctor that helped birth you or one of your older siblings when you have outlived most of them. They did get the passports eventually and traveled to Hawaii via the Cruise. Thus completing their tour of all the states. They had a retirement home in Shingletown, CA for many years that a lot of their friends and relatives enjoyed visiting and eventually gave up the long drive and bought a vineyard in Bella Vista, CA where their daughter and grandchildren lived until they couldn't keep up with the vineyard any longer and their daughter, Evelyn moved into town. Eden Vineyards was a great place for all the family for many years.
Bessie decided to go into Assisted Living in November 2015 and asked her granddaughter to pack up her apartment, while taking her to the hospital for a colon blockage. After immediate surgery was necessary and cancer was found Bessie decided to wait until after the Holidays on choosing an Assisted living facility. Instead, passing away before the move could happen on January 2, 2016 at CopperRidge Care Center. She was a strong and tough 98 years old but ready to go be with her Lord, her husband, and family. She and her family were blessed with a peaceful passing into the arms of her Lord. She will be missed greatly!
There is so much more of my grandmother, Bessie Taber Lider I could enter here but the past few years I got to know a totally new and different grandmother than ever before after moving back to California in 2010 just in time to help with grandpa before his passing and to help grandma Bessie get to her appointments and help her with shopping etc after my mother, Evelyn was no longer able to drive I will treasure these past 6 years I have spent getting to know my grandmother again and wouldn't change it for the world.
