I read an article in Runners World magazine 10+ years ago and was so impressed and inspired in his mission to save his ship through his joy of running. Followed him ever since and was happy for him with every post of his many journeys.  RIP Ernie…❤️

Bob and I had many memories shared with Ernie. He was remarkable in his efforts with and for the LST 325! Bob passed away 2 years ago or he would add his personal thoughts. Thanks Ernie,  for all you did for the ship and for all those you met on your runs. You were an inspiration for all.

My deepest condolences to the family of such an extraordinary man. At 103 years old, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service, strength, perseverance, and a love for running that touched so many lives.

I feel truly blessed and honored to have had the privilege of running alongside him, with my baby boy, during one of his tours at Fort Hood, Texas. That is a memory I will treasure for the rest of my life. To share a run with someone who had already lived more than a century was a gift I could never have fully appreciated in that moment.

His footsteps may have come to an end, but the path he paved through his service, his running, and the lives he touched will continue on.

May God comfort his family and give them peace during this difficult time. Rest well, sir. Your race was long, meaningful, and beautifully run. 🕊️🇺🇸🏃🏽‍♂️🙏🏽

I am deeply saddened of this news although I never met him. I have been following him on Facebook forever. He has provided so much inspiration to myself and those lucky to connect with him. He will be greatly missed every time. I’d see pictures of his face it would bring a smile to mine. I was always eager to find out what his next steps and adventures will be rest in peace, beautiful friend that I never met.

I’m glad to say I met Ernie, a man with a mission, who followed through,  as tough as it was.. I admired Ernie and could never push myself to think or do what he accomplished
I want to send blessings to Ernie’s loved ones and friends.  In the Bible it says God will comfort those that mourn.
