November 6, 1920 - October 11, 2011
Julius Harry Van Buskirk passed away at his home in Redding on October 11, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his father Harry Van Buskirk, mother Juliete and son Anthony.
Julius was born in New York, New York on November 6, 1920.
Proud to be a Pearl Harbor survivor, he served six plus years in the U.S. Navy as a Fire Controlman, on the USS Phoenix and the USS San Francisco, receiving 12 bronze stars, and a victory medal.
He worked as a police officer in Los Angeles and was in construction for many years, belonging to the Northern and Southern California Laborers Unions.
Julius possessed a thirst for knowledge and spent many hours of research on the computer and reading books. An avid believer in exercise, "work out or die" was posted on his refrigerator and he worked out daily in his gym, up until a few months prior to his death.
A special thanks to his caregiver John and friends that spent countless hours giving him love and support.
A very special thanks to "Helen" who made his transition a delight.
