

Leora was born to parents, Sam and Cora Cox on July 9, 1907, near Hobart in Oklahoma Territory before Oklahoma became a state. She passed away December 29, 2010, at Copper Ridge Care Center, with her family by her side. She was a faithful and loving wife of Orville Shaffer Whitney, Sr. They were married April 21, 1923, in Gushing, OK. They were married 67 Years, until Orville's death in 1990. She was preceded in death by her son, Orville Shaffer Whitney, Jr. (Opal), and her daughter, Mary Short (Harlan). Leora leaves behind her son, Everett Whitney (Dorothy) of Seaside, CA., her son, Charles Whitney (Terry) of Merced, CA., her son, Billy Whitney (Pat) of Whitmore, CA., her daughter, Linda Hunt of Redding, CA. She was the loving Mother of six children, 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Her family was the most important part of her life. Leora loved everyone and she loved cooking for them at the holidays, making quilts, and crocheting. Leora was an avid San Francisco Giant's fan, and was happy when they won the World Series in 2010.
