Walter August Roy

Walter A Roy, known to just about everyone as Walt, passed away on August 30, 2026, at his home in Redding, California, following kidney failure. He was 83.

Born on December 16, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, Walt lived a full and colorful life. He graduated from Sawyers Business College and went on to proudly serve his country in the Army, later retiring as a disabled veteran. Whatever came his way, and plenty did, Walt never gave up. That determination became one of the things people admired most about him.

If you knew Walt, you knew about his bowling. It was more than _a hobby; it was a passion that brought him joy and brought people together. At tournaments he was best known as "the Hammer". A longtime and proud member of the American Wheelchair Bowling Association, he also volunteered with fundraising efforts and became a familiar, well loved face at Country Bowl, where everyone looked forward to a game with him.

Nothing mattered more to Walt than family and bowling, and he had a gift for making people feel welcome. He was always up for anything, and he could make anyone laugh, especially with his dog stories. He also loved the outdoors, whether that meant a day on the lake or hitting the road for a good trip. Traveling was one of his great joys, and while he would go just about anywhere, Maui always held a special place in his heart. And yes, he would want it mentioned that nobody could quite match his good looks.

Walt is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Helena M Roy; his nieces, Stacie Cross, Amanda Broxterman, and Kim Andrew's, and his nephews, Ed Lyons Jr., Jesse Broxterman, Sean Andrews arid Curt Lyons. Also, his cousins Jerry Murray and Sherri Dawn Parker.

The service will be held at Lawncrest Memorial Cemetery, led by Lawncrest, on Saturday Sept 5th. with private visitation for family. Graveside service will be at 11:00am. A reception will follow at the Roy residence.
