William T. Arterberry was born on November 20, 1945, in Oklahoma to parents Owen and Mammie. He left this earth on December 6, 2025, at his home in Shasta Lake, California, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill proudly served his country for many years. He began his military journey in the U.S. Army from March 1963 to March 1966, and soon after continued his service in the U.S. Navy from February 1967 to March 1969. During this time, he served with boots on the ground in Vietnam—a commitment and sacrifice he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.
Following his military service, Bill worked in various roles before becoming a member of Laborers Local 185, where he remained until his retirement in 2004. Though he held many jobs, the role he cherished most was becoming a father. His son, Scott Arterberry, was born on May 4, 1972, marking one of Bill’s greatest joys.
Years later, Bill embraced an even bigger challenge—and blessing—when he became a bonus dad to four strong-willed children. For more than 40 years he took on these responsibilities wholeheartedly, filling their lives with camping trips, boat rides, fishing adventures, and an open-door policy that always seemed to include a few extra friends along for the fun. Bill loved the ocean, and he and his wife, Arlene, spent countless summers escaping the heat by camping along the coast.
In 1996, Bill entered another precious chapter: becoming a grandpa. Over the next few years, he was blessed with four grandchildren, and the adventures continued—just with more kids in tow and more school events to attend, many of which he surely thought were behind him. In 2022, he received yet another title that he treasured deeply: “Pop Pop”. He became a great-grandpa to a granddaughter who became his shadow whenever she could. A year later, a great-grandson joined the family, adding even more joy to his days.
Bill was a proud member of the American Legion Post 720 in Shasta Lake, California, where many Saturdays were spent visiting with close friends and family—a place that brought him camaraderie, laughter, and comfort.
He is preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.
Bill leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Arlene Arterberry; his son, Scott Arterberry; his bonus daughters, Jodi Wolsky and partner Dixie McCadden, Kelly Couts and husband Robert, and Keri Wolsky; his bonus son, Jamie Wolsky and wife Melissa; his grandchildren, Bobby and Mikyla Couts, and Faith and Hope Wolsky; and his great-grandchildren, Penelope and Carter.
Bill lived a life full of service, love, and adventure. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the memories he created, and the countless hearts he touched.
