Albert Henry Mangrum was born July 1, 1940 in Clayton , Missouri to Luther Melvin and Thelma Irene Mangrum. He was one of three children. Albert passed away peacefully on Memorial Day, Monday May 27, 2019 under the gentle care of St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan at the age of 78.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rosalind J. Mangrum (nee Lynne) who has been waiting for him in Heaven since February 1994. Father of Sharon (Nathan) Schwab, the late Diane Dufek, and the late Sheryl Mangrum Tate. Father-in-law of John Tate. Proud grandfather of Mark Tate. Dear brother of Earl (Connie) Mangrum and the late Melvin (the late Deloris) Mangrum. Brother-in-law of Paul D. (Leslee) Crowley, and John P. Crowley. Bert will also be deeply missed by his three loving sisters-in-law: Mary Christine Roman, Elizabeth (James) Wojciuch, and Ellen (Leroy) Ryckman as well as many caring nieces and nephews.
Bert was retired from the United States Air Force as a highly decorated Senior Master Sergeant. He served in the Air Force Communications Command. Bert was stationed in many countries throughout his career. He retired after 29 years of dedicated service to his country. Bert was also a member of the American Legion Post 0225.
In his retirement, Bert enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles, never leaving one word behind. He also loved coffee, his computer, NASCAR, and sharing stories with friends and family. He is described as being simply a good man and always a gentleman.
Bert will be laid to rest with his wife in Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
There will be a private graveside service, led by Laura Scanlan, Pastoral Associate of St. John XXIII Catholic Church. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force Funeral Honors Team and the American Legion Post 32 Funeral Honors Team on June 29, 2019 at 11am. The celebration of Bert's life will continue with a luncheon at his home following the honor ceremony.
