Fred was the devoted husband of the late Patricia Garber, with whom he shared over 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a strong and loving family that was the center of their lives. He was a proud and supportive father to Brian (Sandy) Garber, Ann M. Roveda, and Kenneth C. Garber, and a deeply cherished grandfather to Alanna (Andrew) Shulman, Karissa A. Roveda, Mario (Erica) Roveda, Kelsey Garber, and Nicole (Rick) Cramblett.
Born to Frederick D. Garber and Wilhelmina Garber, Fred grew up with strong values of integrity, hard work, and loyalty, which he carried with him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dear sister, Jean Veach.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. During his service, he combined his love for sports with his duties, playing in the Air Force Baseball League for two and a half years. A lifelong athlete and sports enthusiast, Fred was especially passionate about baseball and was a devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers. He rarely missed a game and took great joy in sharing that love of sports with his children and grandchildren.
Family was everything to Fred. He was never happier than when surrounded by those he loved—whether hosting Sunday dinners, cheering on his grandkids at their games and recitals, or simply sharing stories and laughter around the kitchen table. His wisdom, gentle humor, and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
In his final days, Fred received exceptional care from Angela Hospice, for which the family is deeply grateful. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Fred’s honor to Angela Hospice to support their mission of compassion and dignity at the end of life.
Fred Garber will be remembered for his deep love of family, his quiet strength, and his kind heart. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
