On October 24, 2026, Janet Gail Gields peacefully completed her earthly journey, leaving a legacy defined by grace and meaningful service.

Janet was born in Detroit, Michigan, the proud daughter of Clarence and Donna Gields. Her story began with a rich ancestry rooted in Buxton and Chatham, Ontario, Canada. She spent a significant part of her life making beautiful memories in Ecorse, Michigan, at her parents' home celebrating many family holidays. Janet was a proud graduate of the Detroit historic Commerce High School. Her signature flair was on full display in her

beautifully curated home, her treasured collection of Charles Bibbs artwork, and her legendary talent for navigating estate sales. Her love for beauty was also reflected in her fondness for butterflies, which she adored as symbols of grace, transformation, and freedom.

Janet’s professional life was marked by loyalty, serving twenty-five years as a trusted secretary for Michigan’s Secretary of State, Richard Austin, until her well-deserved retirement. She also managed the bookkeeping for her beloved Godmother Dr. Edna Mathis’s iconic salon, Professionals, for over 30 years.

Deeply rooted in her community, Janet volunteered with Detroit's CERT team and served neighbors through the food pantry at St. Timothy United Methodist Church. She kept her days filled with fellowship and laughter, particularly enjoying weekly water and chair aerobics classes at the Oak Park Community Center.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Judy and Patricia(Patty); her brother, Clarence(Buddy); and her beloved son, Jeffery, who passed away on April 24, 2023.

Her beautiful memory will forever be cherished by her devoted daughter-in-law, Margaret; her Godmother, Dr. Edna Mathis; her God-sisters, Florence, Audrey, and Portia; and a wide, loving circle of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, and neighbors who wrapped her final years in steadfast love and sisterhood.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM at Harry J. Will Funeral Homes, 25450 Plymouth Road, Redford, MI 48239.
