Ray was born on June 9, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Russel and Charis (Brown) Phillips. A proud Michigander through and through, Ray spent much of his life working hard, enjoying the outdoors, and cherishing time with his family.
Ray dedicated 34 years of his career as a die maker with the Ford Motor Company, primarily at the Rouge Plant. Known for his precision and work ethic, Ray took great pride in his craftsmanship and contributions to the automotive industry.
Outside of work, Ray found his greatest joy in nature. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who knew the woods and waters of Michigan like the back of his hand. Whether he was in the deer blinds on his own property or casting a line into a favorite lake, Ray loved the peace and challenge of the outdoors.
Ray is survived by his loving daughters, Lacey (Adam) Handley and Trista Phillips; and by his cherished grandchildren, Bradley Handley, Raylynn Handley, and Benjamin Lamb. His family was the light of his life, and he especially enjoyed passing down his love of nature and the outdoors to his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russel and Charis Phillips; his brother, Kirk Phillips; and his sister, Deborah Moore.
A Memorial Service will take place at 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 25450 Plymouth Road, Redford, Michigan 48239. Raymond’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the Memorial Service at 12:00 pm.
