Born December 20, 1966, Robert is survived by his wife Christine Gaither and by his three children Alexander Gaither, Mariah Gaither, and Hannah Gaither. He also leaves behind brothers Bruce (and Donna) Gaither, Leigh (and Helayne) Gaither, Clarke (and Lore) Gaither, and sister Carole (and Doug) Scott.
As a young man, Robert was an active member of Boy Scouts of America and earned the distinguished honor of Eagle Scout. He used his love of woodworking and creativity to contribute to his community in Detroit and passed down that gift to his son and daughters later in life. His creativity also showed in his love of photography that eventually led to an Associates degree in Photography from Henry Ford Community College. Along with this hobby, Robert also enjoyed positively contributing to the community around him, assisting his children with various 4-H related projects, repairing the things that could not be fixed, and caring for stray animals such as the neighborhood cats. He was the type of person that could only speak of the good in people and was there to lend a hand if you couldn’t do it yourself. Robert was an active member of his church where he participated in the worship choir and where he eventually met his second wife, Christine. He will live on with the memories of friends and family of the bright times during family gatherings, gardening with his wife, trips to Henry Ford Museum and the zoo with his children, and his favorite breakfast of peanut butter toast.
A Memorial Visitation for Robert will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10am with a Memorial Service at 11am at Westminster Church of Detroit.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert's memory may be made to Rebel Dogs Detroit.
