Walter J. Steczek

April 1, 1924December 28, 2020

Walter John Steczek was born in Detroit, Michigan to Walter and Angeline Steczek. He was one of three children with his sisters: Stella (William) Masternak, and Genevieve Stassick. Walter passed away peacefully in his Detroit, Michigan home on December 28, 2020 at the age of 96.

Walter was the beloved husband of the late Rose Marie for 64 years until her death in 2016. Loving father of Dean (the late Mary) Steczek, Genevieve "Sis" Steczek, Glen Steczek, and the late Paul Steczek. Father in law of Daniel Christine. Dear grandfather of Michael (Beth) Steczek and Christopher Steczek and great-grandchildren: Tayla, Alaina, Lila and Ethan. He will also be missed by his loyal companion, Quincy the dog.

Walter was a proud WWII Navy Veteran. He served in the Philippines, and in China earning several medals and ribbons.

Walter retired from Ramshaw Photo where he had a successful career in photo finishing. He was known for his fantastic cooking. Walter was always the one to make the big holiday meals. He was famous for his Golumpki's (Stuffed cabbage), pork steak, and his potato pancakes. All of his meals were made completely from scratch.

Walter enjoyed going to the casino and was an extremely good poker player. Especially, Texas Hold'em. However, his passion was his family. Walter simply loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was described by his children as "a really good man and we were blessed to have him as a father".

Walter will be deeply missed by everyone who was blessed to have him in their life. He will be laid to rest privately with his wife Rose Marie in St. Hedwig Catholic Cemetery, Dearborn Heights, MI.
