Beatrice “Bea” Agnes Griffiths (Stampahar) passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 85, at her assisted living facility in Issaquah, WA. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Christina Wynne Long (Griffiths), and her two beloved grandchildren, Evan Andrew and Allison Thekla Long, who brought her endless joy.
Bea was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on April 12, 1940, to Agnes Stampahar (Dukovic) and George Stampahar. Growing up in Pittsburgh, she was the first in her family to attend and graduate college. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Carlow College and began her career in the laboratory at University of Pittsburgh before transitioning to teaching biology at Shaler High School in Pittsburgh. Eventually, Bea found her true professional home at Boeing in Seattle, where she began her 32-year career there starting as a software development engineer and, through hard work and determination, rose into leadership roles, ultimately retiring as Director of Human Resources.
While in Pittsburgh, Bea met John “Barry” Griffiths and they married on July 7, 1967. Soon after, they moved to Kirkland, WA, where Bea began her career at Boeing. They had their daughter, Christina, in 1979. Bea was a doting, devoted, kind, patient, caring mother who gave everything for her daughter. And later, in 2012, Bea embraced her most cherished role as a grandmother. She gave Evan and Allison her heart completely; they became her world.
Bea will be remembered as a caring mother, present and loving grandmother, and also for her many passions - she was a gifted cook who delighted in preparing elaborate meals worthy of a fine restaurant, an avid gardener, and someone who appreciated a good cold beer after a long day of gardening. She was a welcoming host, a crossword puzzle genius, and she never missed watching a Seahawks/Sounders/Gonzaga basketball game on TV. She loved going on walks with friends, reading (and falling asleep while reading), eating McDonald's Filet O' Fish sandwiches, playing tennis, boating, watching her daughter play sports, and traveling. She traveled the world with Barry—visiting Australia, Brazil, and Europe—and later creating countless memories with Christina in Mexico, Canada, across the U.S., and throughout Europe once more. She also had a playful dislike of oven timers, birds, cooking with alternative milks, and being late.
Bea will be missed dearly every single day but her spirit will live on through her family who will forever carry her memory and dry, witty sense of humor in their hearts.
