Dave was born on December 31, 1939 to Charles (Jake) and Margaret (Maggie) Jacobson. His childhood was spent growing up in Minneapolis, Minnesota with his two brothers, Louis and Paul, and his sister Lona Mary. Dave graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957.
Dave met his one and lifelong true love, Jari Murray, in 1963. They were engaged in April and married on August 24th of the same year. Their courtship and marriage spanned 50 years. Dave and Jari have two children a son, Paul, born in 1967 and a daughter Linda born in 1971. During the early part of their marriage Dave entered the political arena and was elected in 1968 to the city council of Egan Township, Minnesota. Later, following Dave’s career path, they relocated to Bellevue, Washington in 1971 where they resided for the rest of their marriage. Dave and Jari were blessed with two grandchildren when Paul and his wife Carol had a daughter Victoria (Tori) in 1992 and a son, John in 1997. Dave always had a love of his pets including his beloved companion Gus along with his frequent visitors the “Black Mafia”, Linda and Walter’s beloved schnauzers, Jack and Kodiak.
As a teenager, Dave joined Hiawatha Chapter Order of DeMolay, rose to the office of Master Councilor and ultimately was awarded the Degree of Chevalier. Upon reaching the age of 21, Dave joined Minnehaha Lodge #165 and was a member in good standing until his passing. Dave also joined and was active in Scottish Rite and the Nile Shrine.
Dave enjoyed his Masonic service especially his work with Nile Shrine which he joined in 1986. Dave was active in the Calliope unit and served as its Captain in 1991. Dave also spent 15+ years as an advisor for Bellevue Chapter Order of DeMolay, where his years of service to DeMolay and the community in general earned him the highest DeMolay honor, the Active Legion of Honor. Dave also took great pride in the service his family provided to the Masonic Youth Groups and was able to watch his son and grandson become Master Councilor and his daughter and granddaughter become Honored Queen.
Dave took great joy in watching and supporting his family in their many endeavors. Whether it be a softball tournament or DeMolay Conclave, “Smilin Dave” was always there. Dave left us with many memories and life lessons. None greater than his “never quit” attitude towards life and its many challenges. Dave successfully beat heart disease, conquered COPD and survived beyond everyone’s expectations following his double lung transplant. Dave did all that he could to remain with his family until God’s final call. We love him and know he will always be with us.
Dave is survived by his wife Jari, his brother Paul Harold of Blaine, Minnesota, his son Paul and wife Carol and their children Tori and John, and his daughter Linda. The family has requested donations in lieu of flowers to the Shrine's Children Hospital.
