Donald (Don) Dean Meyer of Redmond, Washington passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the age of 76. He was born on August 29, 1949 in Los Angeles, California. Growing up, Don spent the school year at his family’s home in the Hollywood Hills and his summers at his uncle Arnold’s farm in Missouri, tending the animals and caring for crops; while home in LA, Don worked to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. This time on the farm and in Scouting led to a life-long interest in handiwork, and Don could fix or build just about anything, from cars and computers to a beautiful hand-built stone fireplace in the Meyer home in Redmond.
Don graduated from John Marshall High School in 1967 and attended Los Angeles Community College where he was on the Dean’s List until joining the Air Force to teach electronics. This was followed by a long career in computing and engineering. Colleagues of Don’s remembered him for his quiet sense of humor, his diligence, thoroughness, and care for his work and those he worked with.
It was while he was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi that he met the love of his life, Margaret (Mickie) Meyer, another Air Force member. Don and Mickie were married on February 23, 1974; they celebrated in the newly opened Disney World in Orlando, Florida. While camping at Fort Wilderness in Disney world, Don decided they should have dinner in Cinderella’s Castle which they did and thoroughly enjoyed! Growing up near Disneyland, Don had a life-long love of the magic of Disney and amusement parks, and in November 2024 he had the great joy of taking his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters back to Disney World for a trip of a lifetime to celebrate his and Mickie’s 50th wedding anniversary. They also celebrated by having another lovely dinner in Cinderella’s Castle with the family.
Don and Mickie settled in Redmond in 1979 where their daughter Cassandra (Cassie) was later born; their house was known for its exquisite garden and outdoor space and any sunny weekend day would find Mickie and Don outside growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. Don was particularly skilled with roses and was always up for trying to grow new vegetables like leeks or artichokes. Don loved wood-working and tinkering, spending the afternoon with a good science fiction or mystery novel, and working on games or puzzles. He loved camping and road-trips, and he and Mickie and Cassie traveled all over the Western United States and Canada together. He was an excellent cook and was even willing to try cooking vegetarian for his daughter and granddaughters; he taught Cassie that it was always okay to change up a recipe even if it didn’t turn out okay, because experimentation is the key to becoming a better cook. His granddaughters Esme and Iris remember him for his big bear hugs and as someone who always made them laugh, whether through goofy jokes or bouncing them on his knees when they were babies.
He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Meyer, and mother Rose Meyer. He is survived by his wife, Mickie Meyer, sister Karen Meyer, brother-in-law Glenn Torres, daughter Cassie Meyer, son-in-law Mark Hopwood, and granddaughters Esme and Iris Hopwood-Meyer. The family would like to thank EvergreenHealth Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Don in his final days.
