We will be celebrating the life of this amazing lady along with family and friends today, but from halfway across the country. Our love is there with yours and we regret that we are missing the opportunity to meet you all who meant so much to her.
Our friendship started when my mother passed in 1986. Joanne worked with my mom at Value Mart in the 1970's as I recall and her friendship with my mother came to my attention when she visited her in Texas during her final months fighting cancer. My late sister Carol had the privelege of meeting Joanne too and they corresponded over the years.
I learned from my mom that since she and Jim shared the same birthday she had started the tradition of calling him each year on that day. It was a comfort to me to continue my mom's tradition and so I started calling Jim every December 15th.
As life went on these calls grew to longer visits and converstions about how are families were doing.
Over 30 years that added a depth to our friendshop that I never could have imagined.
When we owned property in Skagit County between 2012 and 2016 Joanne and Jim made that drive more than once, and we fellowshipped in our RV and it was grand! No on else in our immediate Texas family ever saw our summer spot there and it meant alot to share it with good friends. Joanne shared dahlia bulbs from her beautiful yard, and I for once in my life had the joy of seeing them bloom as I remembered them from my childhood in Skagit County.
We will always remember Joanne as a woman who took interest in others and enjoyed celebrating with family and friends, who cared about her neighbors, and living life to the fullest.
We are thankful this lady, and Jim, have been our friends, our encouragers and our prayer partners.
Jim married a gem and we will continue to embrace him while we celebrate a life well lived by Joanne.
Lovingly,
Marlyn and Robert Scott

Joanne Peterson had the biggest heart to anybody, whether it was family or friends. She was so generous and kind to us. She was an amazing grandma to our son, Alex and always had so much love to him and our family. You will be sorely missed my sweet mother-in-law. We miss you so much and love you.
