Our beloved Lorelei Susan Roetemeyer “Sue” passed peacefully at the age of 92 on May 30, 2021 in Kirkland, Washington. She was born to Charles and Katie (Collins) Wheatley July 19, 1928 in Longview, Illinois.
She married Melvin H Roetemeyer on Christmas Eve 1946 in Minnesota and they remained married for nearly 52 years before he preceded her in death. They had three sons; Carl, Earl, and Melvin Jr.; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
They moved to the Redmond area in 1962, and in the late 1970’s, they moved to Elma Washington where she was active in her community by working at the Montesano Food Bank keeping the books and giving out food. Sue had many friends in the Redmond and Elma areas.
She loved to craft, garden, cook, and bake. You could find her in her garden with her flowers, riding her lawn mower, or in the kitchen making cookies. She could tell a great story and would laugh with you in delight.
She is survived by her brother Harold Wheatley, sons Carl and Melvin, and her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Melvin, in 1998 and her son, Earl, in 2019.
A special thank you to Luca’s Adult Family Home for providing her with comfort and attentive care during the last 8 years of her life.
She will be laid to rest at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Redmond. A Memorial Service for family will take place on July 16 at Cedar Lawn Funeral Home followed by a reception at a family home on July 17th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Montesano Food Bank or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Her love resides in all of her family and her laugh and stories will always be part of our family gatherings.
