May 24, 1913 – February 21, 2013
Marie Wilder was born in Flat River, Missouri. She attended the University of Missouri at Columbia graduating in 1935 with an Education degree and was in the first U of M class with women graduates. There she met Carl Wilder, a Civil Engineering graduate and they were married in 1936. Carl served in the Army Corps of Engineers in California where they adopted their daughter. After World War II he joined the Portland Cement Association and held positions in California, Colorado and Illinois before retiring to Oceanside, California. After Carl’s passing in 1988 Marie eventually left sunny California and moved to University House in Issaquah, Washington in 2003. This final move brought her close to her sister Minnetta and her family in the Seattle area. Carl and Marie traveled all over the globe, loved music, played golf, sang in church choirs and square danced. They played all kinds of card games but Bridge captured their hearts. Marie was a formidable bridge partner. Marie worked as a teacher for a time and volunteered at a variety of community organizations throughout her life. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Ann (Annie) Young, grandson Shawn Michael Young (Jessica) and three great-grandchildren, Shawn Michael, Sophia Marie and Charlie, nieces, Joanna M. Hellman, Susan Hellman, Fred Hellman (Linda), Richard Hellman (Vi), John Hellman (Phyllis), and Ruth Ann Houser (Dan). There will be a family celebration as Marie is laid to rest with her husband Carl on Saturday March 30th at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Farmington, Missouri.
