Odette June Winship

Odette June Winship passed away on June 22, 2013 at 7:35 a.m. at Evergreen Hospital due to cancer. She was surrounded by her husband John and longtime friend Debbie Ramos, it was short and unexpected. She was 74 years old. Odette was a longtime resident of Kirkland. She was born in Honolulu, HI Sept. 21, 1938 to Frances and Erik Grunke. Odette graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957 in HI. A short time later she was married and moved to Azusa, CA. She had two sons, Steve and Phill Hardwick. After a few years the family moved to Redmond, WA where her two sons both graduated from Redmond High School. Odette helped start the 7 and 8 year old Little League teams so her sons could play. For a time she took in foster children. She worked for Swedish Hospital for over 17 years as a patient counselor. She joined the group Mothers Against Drunk Driving and served as a grief counselor for awhile. Odette then joined The Red Hat Society. She became Queen of the Northshore Senior Center group named The Red Hot Rocketts for over ten years. She attended many functions including conventions, casino parties, hat making parties, luncheons, Halloween and Christmas parties. She enjoyed The Red Hat Ladies so much in her later years.

She will be missed.

Odette was preceded in death by her two sons, Steve Hardwick and Phill Hardwick. She is survived by her husband John of 38 years. Also her Aunt Ruth Uhl of St. Augustine, Florida and her uncle Frank Rogers of Deming, New Mexico and her cousin Chafi Luhiau of Honolulu, HI, cousin Bonnie Reed of Stockton, CA and cousin Joyce Gardner of Las Vegas and cousin Irene Holt of Torrence, CA and Uncle Daniel Rodrigues of Los Angeles and her two grandchildren, Erik and Ellie Hardwick of Seattle. Plus, many, many Friends and her cat Princess.

A celebration of he life will be held at St. Jude Parish, 10525 166th Ave. NE, Redmond, WA 98052 at 11:00 a.m. on July 6, 2013. All are welcome. Food and refreshments will be in the Parish Hall located in the church basement. Red Hat Ladies -- please dress in all your best Red Hat gear.
