Sammy M. Johnson, (75), “Sammy”, “Michael”, “Mike”, “Uncle Mikey”, or “Papa”, as he was known, a resident of Redmond passed away April 28, 2021, at home in the presence of his family. He was born in Spur, Texas, and was proceeded in death by his parents Sam Johnson and Syble Carr. Mike is survived by his wife of fifty years, Glenda, their love for one another has been a wonderful example to all and a heritage now emulated by their children. He is also survived by his daughter Theresa Huizi (Chris), son Christopher (Trish), grandchildren Taylor Shrestha (Mantez), Logan Johnson, Gracen Huizi, and Isabella Huizi, great-grandchildren Hendrix Shrestha, and Madden Shrestha.

Mike honorably served in the U.S Army from 1965 – 1967, earning a Purple Heart in Viet Nam as a member of “A” Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry of the 4th Infantry Division. Though many of his buddies were lost in the “Valley of Tears”, Battle of Polei Doc; Mike was in almost weekly contact with some who made it home: a brotherhood for a lifetime.
Mike retired after 36 years, as a Grocer for Safeway Inc., working within California at Coachella, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, and then in Ashland, OR. When Mike retired, he and Glenda moved to Sedro Woolley, WA, to be closer to the children and grandchildren, and resided there for sixteen years.
In Sedro Wooley, Mike built a professional home workshop, where he was able to enjoy his love for woodworking and his desire to share his projects with others, at craft fairs / shows, or just giving items away to see smiles on so many faces. With declining health, five years ago, they relocated to Redmond, to be closer to the family and medical appointments.
Mike had a magnificent personality, having never met a stranger in his lifetime, able to strike up a conversation with anyone and becoming a life-long friend to so many people. Mike was known for his quick wit and humor, that he would share with anyone at any time: Mike loved to laugh.
