Stephen Marvin Rolling

Steve was born in Dodge Center, Minnesota to James and Alice Rolling. As the third of eight children, he grew up in a number of locations mostly in northwestern Iowa. He graduated from Prairie Community High School in Gowrie, Iowa in 1974.

He studied mechanical engineering at Iowa State University for three years before deciding it was time to head west in 1978. He ended up in Corvallis, Oregon, where he eventually completed his engineering degree at Oregon State University in 1980. It was a momentous year: he was hired by The Boeing Company, moved to the Seattle area, and married Kim Holcomb, of Salem, Oregon.

Steve and Kim raised their two children, Thomas (Tom) and Leanne, in Redmond, Washington, where they shared many happy times.

After 36 years, Steve retired from Boeing in 2016. In retirement, he enjoyed playing disc golf and working on his beach cabin at Spee-bi-dah on the Puget Sound. He especially enjoyed boating and crabbing in the summer, watching the Mariners, and relaxing in the evening after a productive day.

He stayed in contact with his high school and Cigar Club friends for decades, and he delighted in hanging out with his neighbors, disc golf buddies and brothers-in-law.

Sadly, and far too soon, he died of pancreatic cancer at EvergreenHealth Hospice Center in Kirkland, Washington with his loving family at his bedside.

He leaves behind his wife, Kim; son, Tom; daughter, Leanne; and son-in-law, Spencer Bowman. He also leaves behind his siblings: Dan Rolling (Becky), Dave Rolling (Jean), Marie Tarbox (Jerry), Nick Rolling (LuAnn), Paul Rolling (Beth), Jeff Rolling (Val), and Andrew Rolling.
