

After a lengthy illness, Vladimir Paul Slavich died peacefully in the comfort of his home in Redondo Beach, CA on October 14th at the age of 87. Born in Everett, WA to Croatian immigrants Ludvig and Antonia Slavich on June 29, 1937, he was the youngest of 5 children. He grew up in Everett and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Everett High schools. After graduating high school in 1955 he went on to the University of Washington and received his bachelors degree in 1959 majoring in mathematics and chemistry. He worked for Boeing for some time before joining the first wave of Peace Corps volunteers in 1962. He was assigned to Ghana to teach high school chemistry but once he arrived he was reassigned to teach mathematics where the need was greater. After Ghana he returned to the U.S. and attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison and obtained his masters degree in mathematics. He relocated to southern California where he worked as a software engineer for McDonnell Douglas and Hughes. During this time Paul met his future wife Alice Donovan. Together they lived in Redondo Beach CA for over 45 years before her death earlier this year.
He was preceded in death by wife Alice, brothers Lou and Rudy and sister Mary.
Brother Ed, numerous nieces and nephews, and Alice's children and grandchildren survive him.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated October 31st at Our Lady of Hope, 2501 Hoyt Ave, Everett WA, at 11:00am. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Everett, WA.
