
Dear Mr. Brown, My friend my neighbor, my inspiration. Thank you for always being there, your friendly and cheerful presence (on the porch watering your lawn) I am missing so much.  I just learned of your passing today.  I am so grateful I had our friendship in my life, our little chats, your upbeat, positive and every day blissful interactions. I miss you so much.

I went through the same loss with my dad two years ago.  And I will visit both dad and Mr. Brown at Skyline soon.

DD, Saturday, my wife read the obituary from the Hastings paper as we drove by "poverty hill" where your dad farmed and you first lived.  My parents were Merna & Vern Watson.  I am the oldest , Marlan, living in Superior.  Floyd drove our school bus and Georga was the school cook.  I have fond memo of your family and the fizzies.   Marlan V Watson

Dad, I have so many memories of us on the farms in Nebraska. You called me "muscles" back then and we would get into the old truck and a lot of times go to the grainery, go "trading" or visiting. You drove through a big storm over 80 miles to make sure I had a bicycle under the tree for Christmas. (Of course I still have the 64 year old bike and the receipt!) I would bring the cows in to feed before I could watch the "Lone Ranger" and you always liked to tell everyone about the cow I milked at age of 5. You would have me sit on the disc or plow to put some weight on the back to get it deeper in the ground.  You and Mom made such a life changing  decision to move to California. When I was younger I didn't realize the sacrifices you both made for us kids and how unselfish you were with all the help you gave family and friends and us girls.  You always worked two jobs.

It was so hard this last year to see you so sharp and alert but your body starting to fail you.  I'm sorry for the times I may not have been patient with you. It was because I didn't want you to give up or your muscles and arthritic bones to stop working. You did very good for yourself after we lost Mom and Jeanette tried to cook your dinners "as good as Mom did". I think she passed the test. You always let her know. You always enjoyed us visiting you everyday or as often as we could. Falling and breaking your shoulder was so devasting to you. You had to go to a skilled nursing facility and had a couple of caregivers/therapist that meant so much to you.  I think you would have enjoyed the assisted living apartment you had just moved in to if you were given more time. 

It was so hard seeing you in so much pain and not knowing what to do for you when you asked for help. My only saving grace is all the memories I have and what a wonderful Dad you were to us 3 daughters and how much you loved your grandchildren, Nicholas and Rebecca. You meant so much to them

My days will certainly be different.  What will I do every day when I went to visit with you or took you to doctor appointments?  I hope Mom was first in line to greet you and you were able to dance again to "In The Mood"

I love you Dad.

Gene Brown had been a joy and blessing to work with.  He will be missed very much.  I pray that his family will have the strength to get through this time and always keep his memory close at heart.  He always sang the song, "You are my Sunshine".  I will always know that when the sun is shining, Mr. Brown is part of that shining sun.  May he rest in peace.
