Biography

Marlene Annuzzi was born on August 22, 1945 in San Francisco, California to parents Mariana Waddell, also from San Francisco, and Jack Waddell, who was from Dalmuir, Scotland. Marlene and family moved to Redwood City, California when she was approximately five years old. She attended Henry Ford Elementary School (Class of '57), John F. Kennedy Middle School (Class of '59) and Woodside High School (Class of '63).

Marlene was the youngest of two sisters. Her older sister, Anne Marie Gillanders, was her best friend, and the two spoke just about every day.

As a child, Marlene spent a lot of her time with her mother's family, who had roots in Sicily. Every Sunday night was spent having an Italian family meal with cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents.

In 1963, Marlene met Joseph (Joe) Annuzzi, Sr., originally from Verbicaro in Calabria, Italy, at an Italian family dance in Mountain View, California. On July 24, 1965, Marlene and Joe were married at St. Pius Church in Redwood City, California and were an inseparable, devoted team ever since. They were married for 52 years.

Nothing was more important than family to Marlene, and her dream was to become a mother. She was blessed with three children, one daughter, Elena, and two sons, Joseph (Joe) Jr. and Michael. Marlene was completely selfless and always put the needs of her children before her own.

Marlene was a member of St. Pius Church since her childhood, and all three of her children attended the school between the years of 1980 and 1998. She was very active in the school and parish community serving as a room mother, working at the parish festivals and participating in various other Church activities.

In addition to her role as a wife and mother, Marlene spent several years working for the City of San Carlos and the City of Redwood City as a business administrator. Later in her career, she also worked at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center in Redwood City where she served as an advocate for seniors.

After retiring, Marlene continued to focus on her family, hosting nearly every holiday and birthday celebration with Joe at their home. The Annuzzi home was always busy and full of laughter and love.

Marlene Patricia Annuzzi passed away on February 27, 2018 at her home in Redwood City. She fought an 11-year battle with cancer and is survived by her husband, Joe; her children Elena, Joe Jr. and Michael; her sister, Anne Marie; and her mother, Mariana.
