I'm writing this now at 252am because I had a dream about tai ping and I can't go back to sleep. 

Tai-Ping and I were friends in junior high and high school.  We shared many memories and conversations during those formative years.  He was very driven academically and was also very committed to his family,  often both of those things took priority over his own personal desires and interests.   He was extremely disciplined and would often sadly reject doing something he wanted to do because he either has to help his parents or study.  He was also thoughtful and mature and did not speak unnecessarily.  These combined behaviors were often mistaken by peers as lack of personality but I knew this to be strength of character and self sacrifice since he often shared his wide ranging personal desires and interests with me.  He had a sense of humor, complex thoughts and ideas,  imaginations,  but yet he was so disciplined and laser focused in his two priorities and rarely shared these things with others.   

We played football at recess and lunch and woe to the defender who had to cover tai ping, because he was lightning fast. 

Tai ping was also very frugal and disciplined with money,  again often sacrificing things he wanted to save money for his parents.

I remember some of the girls he had crushes on in jh and hs and he had great taste!

We both loved computers and wanted to learn c++ so we took the class one summer at the college of San Mateo.   It was a challenging and condensed course but tai ping aced it.   Always proud of his elegant and robust and efficient code.  He was the teachers favorite student. 

I wish we had remained closer or reconnected more,  we did see each other a couple times since high school but Im sad I couldn't be there for him and closer to him and shared more memories after high school.   

Tai ping was a very special guy and society has suffered a great loss by his passing.  He seriously could have built taiping ai to control all other ais! He

I went to school with Tai-Ping in high school" I remember all the headache we caused our computer science teacher including writing a "computer virus" that infected all the class discs by swapping all their keys around and cranking up the volume on the computer just to play a really annoying song 5 minutes after each class. I still remember the gang of 5 crazy future computer science engineers that was going to take on the world once we got into College. Over the years we've lost touch and only through blind luck I ran into him and linked him through Facebook. Though we lived close, our lives led us miles apart. I'll always remember his smile, the lack of pretension and the humility of his achievements. 

Tai-Ping is my first manager. He hired me from graduate school and offered me my first job. Working with him is so fun, and I realized this even more after he was no longer my manager. Though only worked with him for about a year, I have been missing the days working with him all the time, in the past ten years. I keep asking myself, shall I change my job, so that I could work with him again. I'm so sad I have lost the opportunity.
Tai-ping has taught me how to be a software engineer, not just technically, but also how to do it with your own character.The way he would treat workmates as family member has made a deep impression for me.
He has  so much after-work activities that I do not know how he could do them all: woodworking, marathon, back country hiking, .... Seeing him so enjoyable in these activities, I'm tempted to try, and wood working becomes my biggest hobby now. 
My life will be so different with you,  you gave me my first job, you mentored me in my career, and you inspired me to find a hobby I like. Thank you, Tai-Ping! I'll miss you!
