It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved father Arthur "Art" or "Poppa Art" Hermosillo. Art was born on January 1, 1958 in West Covina, California. He was a New Year’s baby, and his mother received a special gift as a result of him being born. Since birth, it was evident that Art was special. Art passed away on March 16, 2024 after 20 years of battling health issues that ultimately led to his death. Art was only 66 years of age.
Art had the most infectious laugh and smile. To know him, was to love him. He was the most caring person, with the biggest heart. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Art felt it was important to help out kids that were less fortunate, and always reached out to them and got them involved in sports, camping and other activities. As a result, Art impacted many lives of young kids in a positive way.
Art was predeceased by his loving parents Santos and Elvira Hermosillo, and his oldest brother and best friend Frank Hermosillo.
Art is survived by his children Jessica Roberto, Katrina Hermosillo and Jason Hermosillo, who were his whole world. He is also survived by his grandsons who meant everything to him, Jordan and Jacob Isaguirre, and Brandon Matthews. His granddaughters Corina Leal, Micaela Jimenez, Peyton, Reise and Karson Hermosillo, also survived Poppa Art. He was also delighted at the recent birth of his first great grandson Kai Arthur Isaguirre.
Art is also survived by his loving sisters Lupe Gonzalez, Mercy Arzola, and Norma Hernandez, and his younger brother Joe Hermosillo. Art was blessed to have the best brothers-in-law who became actual brothers to him as well, Al Arzola (Mercy Arzola) and Joseph Hernandez (Norma Hernandez). He also became a big brother to his sisters-in-law Diane Cantu and Sue Cantu.
Lovingly known as Uncle Art, he is also preceded in life by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, who all loved him and had special bonds with him.
Arthur spent his childhood years living in the town of Azusa, California where he spent his days playing baseball outside with his brother Joe Hermosillo, and neighborhood friends. Always the sports enthusiast, Art played baseball and football his whole life. Art graduated Gladstone High School in 1976 and married his high school sweetheart Sandie Cantu. Eventually, they welcomed their three children Jessica, Katrina and Jason.
Art continued his love for baseball by coaching little league for many years in Azusa.
In 1989, Arthur moved his young family to the small town of Reedley in Central California, where they built their dream home on 2 ½ acres. Art labored every day to make that home come to fruition and did all of the electrical work in the home.
Art quickly became a beloved community member among the town of Reedley as he coached many baseball and softball teams and was actively involved in all of his children's and grandchildren's extracurricular activities. You could often find Art eating breakfast at his favorite restaurants and visiting with other community members.
A memorial for Art will be held at St. Dorothy Catholic Church on April 12, 2024 at 10:30 am in Glendora, California, a reception will follow the church service (information to be announced) and a celebration of life will be in held in Reedley, CA.
