Dan was born on the 16th of August, 1955 and was a life-long resident of Sanger, California. In 1973 he graduated from Sanger High School, where he played the French horn in the school’s marching band alongside many friends while also singing in the choir. He then attended and graduated from Reedley College before attending Fresno State for two years. He earned a certificate in Business Accounting, Banking, and Finance from the Pacific Coast School of Banking.
Dan spent most of his professional life in finance and banking. He worked for First Mortgage Corporation from 1997-2009 and started up branches of that company in Fresno and Sanger. Later he worked as a loan consultant for Primary Residential Mortgage, Inc.
Dan was outgoing and compassionate throughout his adult life. He was a founder and charter member of the Knights of Columbus council 8990 of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Sanger and created the Knights of Columbus horseshoe tournament. He sat on the Board of Directors of Father Hannibal House and Hope Sanger and donated much of his free time participating in the efforts of those two organizations to provide food, clothing and sociological support to the poor.
Adult recreational sports were a huge part of Dan’s life as he was an active participant in volleyball, tennis, basketball and softball. The highlight of his athletic prowess was starting the very famous Sanger softball team Wallins which, by design, had a roster littered with family members and close friends for many years.
Dan, with the loving support of his wife, Christina, spent the last several years of his life fighting the ravages of a stroke that left him confined to a wheelchair. He never lost his sense of humor or his love of sports. Friends referred to him as “the Dodgers’ best fan in Sanger”. A visitor could always count on his greeting them decked out in Dodgers’ or Kansas City Chiefs’ gear—a different array, it seemed, on each visitation.
