Our Grandmother lived a life of service and it wasn’t always easy, but she made sure everyone was taken care of. She would speak of her Father coming from Durango Mexico and Mother from Guanajato. She would tell the story with pride that they met crossing at Piedras Negras and making it to Crystal City Texas where she was born. She loved the statue of Popeye in the middle of town and always identified the city with it. She told us of traveling up and down the western US from as far north as Oregon picking apples where she said they had trees growing on the sidewalks. She was the eldest of their children and she did not take that lightly. She often checked on my Aunt Lucy and Uncle Alfonso (Poncho) her hermanita and hermanito. She loved taking care of people and believed it was her duty to watch over all of us.
