Louie was my Dad's mechanic and family friend. My dad (Pablo Reyes) told me he new Louie before he got married to Angie. They came to my sweet sixteen party out in the ranch and gave me 2 gifts. My mom and I would go to the prayer meetings at the old Catholic Church building by Wells Fargo.  They guided me to receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior. The most important decision I made in my life.

To the Arias family, I want you to know that I am deeply sorry for losing Louie in your everyday life. However, there is spiritual comfort in knowing with certainty that Louie is in heaven. This is evidenced by Louie's deep faith in Christ and the manner in which he lived and inspired others to love Christ. I am deeply indebted to Louie for the many lessons he taught me since I was in high school. I would not be the person that I am today without his guidance, mentorship, and wisdom. As I reflect on my life, I can attest that the inspiration that Louie provided me regarding the pursuit of higher education when I worked for him as a student in the Regional Occupational Program, served me well. His guidance and advice made a lasting impression on me. Without Louie's guidance, I would  not have pursued my degree at the University of Southern California and my subsequent career as a Marine Corps Officer, which entailed  serving over 24 years as a Cobra Helicopter Pilot. Louie's mentorship allowed me to believe in myself. The seeds of confidence he planted in me in 1980 when I was a junior in high school inspired me to complete a masters  degree from Harvard University. His guidance and inspiration continues to live on today as I am on my fourth year toward my PhD at the University of San Diego,  where I also teach leadership studies to undergraduate  students. When I teach these classes, on the first day of class, I show all my undergraduate students a picture of five mentors that have transformed my life. And I make it clear that the most significant source of inspiration in my life has and will always be Louie Arias. Louie, I thank you for being a beacon of light in my life. Thank you for showing compassion, believing in me, and the interest in imparting your wisdom. I assure you that it was not lost on me, and for that, I am eternally grateful. Your inspiration lives on in me as I now work to inspire others as you did with me. Eternally grateful, Jaime Ruvalcaba
