Stephen Hagopian, 73, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026 in his home in Fresno, California. Born on November 2, 1952 in Reedley, California, Stephen was the middle child of the late George and Julia Hagopian.
After earning his teaching credentials in Early Childhood and Special Education at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz, respectively, he went on to a 17-year career as an elementary school teacher. An actively involved community member and avid advocate for the many causes he believed in, he frequently volunteered with multiple charitable organizations and churches, and was highly regarded for his fundraising efforts, as well as his kindness, passion, and generous spirit.
He is survived by his sister, Georgette Karabian and brother-in-law, Russell Karabian, and their children, Karen Price, Michelle Hannah, and Kevin Karabian; his sister, Lisa Nesgis, and her children, Juliane Muriedas, Tyler Nesgis, and Kylie Nesgis; as well as 13 great nieces and nephews.
A deeply passionate community volunteer, dedicated care-giver, and loving uncle, he will be remembered as a man who led with great energy and enthusiasm, and always made time for others.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Sahag-Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church.
