William "Dollar Bill" Herbert Terry

Mr. William Herbert Terry was born June 19, 1947 to his mother Marie E. Terry and father Herbert L. Terry in Reedley, California. We all fondly knew him as "Dollar Bill". Bill attended School in Reedley, California.

He worked in several packing houses for a few different families. He enjoyed family trips with his mom and dad. They took many a road trips. They visited a lot of family on their journeys. After high school Bill attended Reedley City College then moved on to Fresno State where he earned his B.A. in teaching. Bill was very active in college. He played collegiate golf and did very well. Golf took him around California furthering his enjoyment to travel.

Bill served in the United States army for 4 years. He was assigned ground to air artillery. He talked about his service in the army often. Once out of the army he taught briefly at Reedley Community College. His career later took him to Tulare Unified where he taught high school math and later computer science. Bill retired from teaching in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Bill absolutely loved sports. He played basketball for years. He played for Tulare men's league. He followed the San Francisco Giants fanatically.

Bill was looking for something to do in his retirement. He was the president of the Visalia coin club for 30 years. Bill had a wealth of knowledge he would share any chance meeting he had. Bill found Rocky Hill Antiques where he would call home. He rented a booth for 25 years. Bill was a prolific woodworker. His booth was adorned with antique furniture and other items he picked on his journeys. Bill also sold coins and currency at Rocky Hill.

Bill was a world traveler. His mother Marie introduced him to traveling to the U.K. when she would travel there for her job. She would purchase perfumes for the pharmacy she worked at. Marie made life long friends in the U.K. Bill would soon join his mother on her travels where he made lifelong friends with his mother's friends children.

His dad passed away in 1968 and mom passed away in 2000. Bill would continue his travels to the U.K., Ireland, and France. His friends Paul and Gill Rogers of Reading England were the perfect stewards of Bill's European holidays. Equally was Bill when they came to the states for holiday.

Bill enjoyed a nice pub and a nice cold pint. You could find Bill at Amigos a few times a week. Taco Tuesday was a must. Bill led a very regimented life. Nearly everything he did was on a schedule. On a legal pad he would write down daily the times what he did, the weather, what he ate. Bill had a membership at In-Shape. He was an avid member. He loved using their pool.

All in all Bill led a carefree life. He had a hard time showing it but he loved all his friends. From his army days, holidays, teaching days, Rocky Hill, Amigos, In-Shape, Mo's G&G, you were all family to Bill. He held your friendships in highest regards. We will all miss your conversations, your quick wit, and willingness to tell us all about the weather. In Reedley!! LOL
