Amy Marie Kittleson was born in a shabby farmhouse near Macoun, SK on July 1, 1933 with Dr. Mainprize presiding. She was born into the worst place in Canada in the depths of the Great Depression and that would sort of define her. She was tougher than nails, 100 pounds of Norwegian tough. I grew to be twice the size and still would not like to take her on. She always had a practical bent, a fiercely self-reliant attitude, and a help-thy-neighbor philosophy that was unwavering, much to the benefit of family, friends, and soon-to-be friends who were lucky to cross her path. She was predeceased by her parents Hallik and Ida Kittelson; and her siblings Minnie, Roy, Helen, and Hilda. She outlived them all despite smoking a pack a day for 137 years. She was a tough woman who, as a single mother, went on to raise four kids out of poverty in public housing into six university degrees. I, Ken, was the worst of les enfants terribles. I had a great Mom, she was a lioness. Judy (Grant) Shortridge, Donna (Sarath) Peiris, and Rick (Mardell) Taylor will also tell you that she was a wonderful and generous mother. Evan (Lynn), Tricia (Ryan), Courtney (Brandon), Caitlin, Taylor, Melissa and Jason will tell you about a fabulous grandmother who made time for them and loved them unconditionally. Millar, Mac, Amy, Benson and Carter had an incredible Gee-Gee, even if it was for too short a time. An informal celebration of her life will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 Victoria Ave E at 2:00 pm.
