Grief is an interesting thing.  It whirls you around and boy it sure has me spinning.

Its Thanksgiving today and my grief is at the point that I am grateful that I had the opportunity to have my husband in my life for 25 years.

I wanted to come here and proclaim that, for it is important to me.

I also wanted to state my gratitude to a few others on this day of thanks starting with my co-workers.

Sandra and Donna - you have been instrumental in my healing, and I want you to know how much I am grateful for all your love and support.

My ASM's and my Manager Ron - words cannot describe the relief and thankfulness I have for your flexibility and humanitarianism that you have given and continue to give to me.  I wouldn't be able to continue my job without it.

To all the people that signed my two cards and gave a 'buck-or-two' - your kind words made my heart warm, and when I re-read it, it still does.  A special thanks to Maureen as she mentioned that I lost my best friend.  (I sure did)

Jeannie from Deli - It was such a pleasure talking with you because ... you did all the talking.  I have spilled my heart out so many times, that I just was done doing so.  I just needed to be with someone that didn't ask me to talk.  My sessions with you were a respite, and I am so glad we are friends.

My sister Donna.  If it wasn't for you, I would of walked out my first day back at work.  You helped me so much that week sister, and I couldn't of done it without you.  I love you, and so did Cassell.

My sister Diane.  When my children were young and my husband was out of province working, you stayed with me, taking my kids to daycare and back and watching them while I worked a split shift job.  If it wasn't for you, none of that would of been possible.

My mom.  Mother, I love you very much, and I wouldn't want you to be any other way than you are.  Cassell loved you very much, and I know you loved him.  Thank you for all your love and support.

Vern Kimme - Cassell loved you so much Vern, and I know the feeling was mutual.  You were a great friend to him, and I know he would regret that he cannot be with you anymore.

All the Dragonboaters - Cassell loved Dragonboating!  Loved it, and I wanted you all to know how much he would be missing all of you right now.  I want to thank the Soggy Bottom Buoys and SMYT for dedicating their races to him.

Blaine - the guy that introduced Cassell to the sport of Dragonboating!  Cassell held you in high regard Blaine, and so do I.  Thank you for taking my man under your wing.  I hope Edmonton is treating you well.

Chris, Miles and Brian - though two of you are not in my life anymore, you 3 were instrumental in helping me cope with the house and with life.  I hope you are doing well.

Carmela Giocoli - thank you for your card.  You were the only one from the office that acknowledged my loss, and I want you to know how profound that is to me.  Ramona told me you lost your mom.  I am sorry for that.  I hope you, your children and Richard are well.  I also hope that you will have your man with you till your both in your 90's!

Really missing my dad, they say it gets easier... But everyday I struggle with his absence of love and support :(

August 21st, 1993, Cassell and I were wed.

I cried.

I thought Cassell was crying too, but it turned out to be a bead of sweat.

You see, we were married in the Greenhouse here in Regina.  We originally wanted it to be at Kiwanis Park's waterfalls, but the mosquitoes were terrible that year.

... but the Greenhouse was HOT on August 21st, 1993.

Needless to say, when I thought he was shedding a tear, I cried more.

I loved him so much.

I hate saying that in the past tense.

Today we were supposed to be on a cruise, or a hike somewhere.  We didn't know what we wanted to do, but we were excited about the prospects.  We had just gotten our passports and were ready to travel the world.

I am not going anywhere today.

I have heard that people have been asking about me and how I am doing.

I am not doing well.

I have been with my man since I was 16 years old, literally building myself into an adult with him.

My husband made me stronger, more confident - he made me better - and I am less without him.

On top of my grief, I am also feeling shame, for I know I am supposed to be a role model for my children but I am a mess.

I am not proud in saying that, but it is a fact.

I envisioned/planned my life to be with Cassell till I died.  Invested everything in it, sacrificed and fought for it!

A dangerous driver made it not so.  And this is something else I have to deal with.

So, I am mad, terribly sad and ashamed.  It is a vicious cycle that feeds itself and I don't know if I can get out of it.  I don't know if I want to get out of it.

I dealt with things better with Cassell at my side.

I miss him and need him so much but I don't have him anymore and I am angry about that.

I didn't make that choice, and I have a hard time dealing with things I don't want to deal with.

Its my 20th wedding anniversary today, and I am not going anywhere.

cousin cassell..today you have been in up front in my head and heart (always in my heart) I was just remembering the time u came to canmore ...the sticky floor bar..I love u and miss..and I wish we spent more time and had more time together..forever in my heart...

Rhonda, oh my, I just found out about Cassell's passing yesterday. My though and love go out to you and the kids. I am so so sorry to hear this. I will never forget all the great times we had together!! Love you lots!!!

None.

I lost a part of myself on October 30th, 2012 and I miss him grievously.

I didn't see any of you when I stood up at my husband's funeral, only a mass of humans.

After reading my husband's guestbook, I am wanting to take this time and say a few things to a few of you.

Susan - I really care for you very much.  Cassell liked you and your man very much and talked about phoning you guys often.  I am truly sorry we didn't.

Kylie and Jason - It was nice to read your names when I did. My Nightingale enjoyed your company.  Thanks for coming.

Dean Flavel, our best man.  The stories my man had about you two - ha!  The street racing, attending music concerts, the waking up with scratches on the truck and not knowing how they got there!  Gasp @ that two of you!  Did you see the wedding pictures? I posted them here.

Pam and Bruce - Cassell really enjoyed your guys company, and so did I.

Deepest condolences Rhonda, Josh, Alicia and family.  My memories of Cassell include him working hard and loving life (riding bikes, walking dogs, laughing loud).  It was obvious from the way he spoke about his children that he was a proud father.  I will remember him as a great person.

I knew Cassell as a young student student in Lumsden. I remember him as upbeat, cheerful and supportive of others. In reading the Guest Book I noted that those attributes stayed with him throughout his too short life. Condolences to Cassell's family and friends.
