Coleen Mary Schwartz (née Schulhauser) passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her husband and five children. She was reunited with her parents and brother, a reunion she spoke of with comfort and anticipation.
Coleen was born on December 7, 1948, in Southey, Saskatchewan, to Rita and Rudy Schulhauser. She was the second of five children and grew up on the family farm south of Cupar. Coleen attended Radant School through Grade 6 and later graduated from Cupar School.
In 1968, Coleen married the love of her life, Garry Schwartz, and together they began their life in Regina before eventually settling on the farm near Cupar. Coleen worked for the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association before moving to Cupar, where she was employed by the Cupar School Division. Over the years, this became the Qu’Appelle Valley School Division and later Prairie Valley School Division, from which she retired in 2012. Coleen went on to work with Mayfair Diagnostics until 2016.
Coleen was a woman of many talents. She was an avid gardener, cook, and baker who always had a meal ready for anyone who stopped by—often accompanied by a jar of homemade pickles, and if you were lucky, her infamous cabbage rolls and buns. Coleen helped on the family farm, driving truck, after her normal work day, all while making sure everyone was fed and taken care of. She loved knitting and crocheting, reading, playing cards, and watching movies with her family, always with an assortment of sweet and salty snacks close at hand.
Her greatest talent, and the one she was most proud of, was loving her family. The love and dedication she poured into her family filled her days, and her prayers for them filled her nights. Coleen took her role as the family “cheerleader” seriously and attended every event she could to support her children and grandchildren. She was the very best babysitter to her grandchildren and, most recently, her great-grandchildren, with whom she shared a special bond. They all adored their “Mamo.” Her energy and devotion to her family never wavered— family was her first priority.
In October, Coleen was diagnosed with cancer and was prepared to fight with determination and faith. After facing many obstacles, she was told in December that treatment was no longer an option. She was brought home, where she was lovingly cared for by her family until her final moments, surrounded by the same love she had so freely given throughout her life. Her strong faith carried both her and her family through this difficult time. Coleen often shared that she was not afraid and was at peace, a gift of comfort her family will cherish forever.
Coleen was predeceased by her parents, Rudy and Rita Schulhauser; her brother, Brian Schulhauser; her mother- and father-in-law, Bill and Liz Schwartz; and her brothers-in-law, Leo Machniak and Ron Dale.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Garry Schwartz; her children: Rob and Joy Schwartz, Becky and Harley McClughan, Shauna and Shaun Hubick, Randy Schwartz and Angie Gerrard, and Wendy Schwartz; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Callie, Kassidy, Kiley (Rob); Amber, Mitch, Connor, Teagan, Whitney, Derek, Kane, Carson (Becky); Dryden, Tara, Millie, Ren, Donavon (Shauna); Jace and Jett (Randy); her siblings: Garnet and Cathy, Marlene and George, Marj and Bill; her in-laws: Paulette, Bev, Ken and Nancy, Brenda and Morris, Barb and Ken; and many friends, cousins, relatives, and all those whose lives she touched—which is everyone who had the honour of knowing her. Though our hearts are broken, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace.
We would like to extend special gratitude to Wendy, who stood faithfully by Mom’s side as her caregiver, advocate, and steady source of comfort. Her devotion to both Mom and Dad means more than words can express and we are forever grateful!
Funeral arrangements will be made at a later date.
Donations in Coleen’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
