Dylan Michael De Jong

March 18, 2002May 24, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Dylan “Big Dyl” de Jong of Regina passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 24, 2020, at the age of 18. Dylan was born on March 18, 2002, in Regina, Saskatchewan. He entered the world as the baby of the family, but quickly grew to be the family’s biggest little guy. Known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humour, Dylan embodied something that blessed this earth for all those that were lucky enough to know him. He graduated from Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School in 2020 and, as a gifted athlete, he encapsulated what it meant to be a Golden Sun on and off of both the basketball court and the football field. Dylan had the height to complement his nickname, but also had the big heart to match. He is remembered for his inclusion and consideration of others, his ability to light up any room he entered, and his genuine nature. Dylan was predeceased by his grandfather Blythe de Jong. Dylan will be forever loved and missed by his parents Shauna and Bryce; siblings Kaitlyn and Ryan; grandparents Darryl and Lorna Howell, and grandmother Margaret (Blythe) de Jong; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dylan will also be loved and missed by his circle of friends, who were just like family. A Private Service will be held for family, and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Regina Humane Society in Dylan’s memory. The light Dylan brought to the world will continue to shine with his memory. Live Big.

Our deepest deepest condolences for you and your family. Our son Theron was a rookie on the LeBoldus Football team this past season with Dylan. Theron remembers Dylan as a friendly, humorous guy that welcomed him and all the rookies onto to the team. He was always supportive of his teammates and kind to everyone. All the players looked up to Big Dyl and his leadership qualities. He will always be remembered as a kind soul. We are praying for you during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to you.

I went to school with Dylan at LeBoldus. From the very first interactions I had with him he also made me feel important and respected. He always made time to understand the plight of others and make them feel as though their situation or struggle mattered personally to him. I often joke around with my friends, and Dylan was my favourite person to tell jokes to. He always laughed made you feel heard even if the joke was not particularily funny. On the football field, I always felt much safer when Dylan was on the field. I knew he would be a calming presence even in tense situations. Dylan was one of the most joy filled people I've ever met. I cannot rememeber a time when he seemed truly unhappy, and his joy spread to the people around him. I will deeply miss him.
